Dr. Annkatrine Liegmann Gates is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dr. Gates was born and raised in Northern Germany and emigrated to the United States as a young adult. She received her A.L.B in Psychology from Harvard University and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) from William James College (formerly the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology -MSPP) in Newton, Massachusetts. Dr. Gates works primarily with Adults in individual, couple, and group therapy. Her expertise include: Identity Quests by exploring family, relational, and existential issues; Trauma-informed therapy; and Stepfamily Dynamics therapy and consultation.
Dr. Gates completed internships at: (a) The Bromfield School (Harvard, Massachusetts), providing psychotherapy and assessment for children and adolescents; (b) Bournewood Hospital (Brookline, Massachusetts) with a focus on individual and group treatment of Substance Use Disorders and Trauma, including alcohol and opioid dependence and emotional, physical and sexual abuse; and (c) Brandeis University (Waltham, Massachusetts), where she completed a two-year internship as well as her post-doctoral fellowship, with a treatment focus on Mood and Anxiety Disorders, including Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorders, OCD, PTSD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Schizophrenia and other Psychotic Disorders, as well as training in Cultural and Racial Identity awareness and development.
Dr. Gates completed a post-graduate fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute for Psychoanalysis and has undergone various informal training in the United States and Europe, including psychodynamic trauma treatment as well as ongoing multicultural and racial (trauma and identity) awareness and skills training. In addition, Dr. Gates has researched and written about stepfamilies and is a certified Stepfamily Foundation Coach.
